Kids BJJ Program

At Commons Jiujitsu, our kids program is designed to develop each child holistically, building technical competency, cognitive abilities and strong values side by side. Grounded in child development theory, the program is designed in consultation with Coach Daryl, a therapist with experience working with children and young teens, and goes a step further by being intentional about the language and communication used with every student. It is a space where kids learn BJJ in a way that supports how they grow, think and see themselves.

TODDLERS PROGRAM (4-6 yo)

Our toddlers program is guided by established child development theories - classes are taught through play and imagery that suits how young children think, while building fundamental movement skills like balance, coordination and body awareness. Through interactions with the students, we nurture confidence and initiative while modeling the respect and values we want our students to carry on and off the mats.

KIDS PROGRAM (7-12 yo)

The kids program is guided by established child development theories for older kids as they start developing into young teenagers - we help students understand the why behind each technique and solve problems logically, while refining fundamental movements into real BJJ skills. Through achievable challenges, encouragement and strong role models, students start to build competence and self-belief through the program.

PARENT ACCOMPANIED CLASS

Our parent-accompanied class is a 30-minute session where toddlers learn alongside a parent, who joins in to help guide and assist them. Having a parent close by gives the young child a secure base to explore an unfamiliar environment with confidence, while the shared activity offers parents a special opportunity to bond with their child through play, movement and learning together.
